The Puzzling World Of Sudoku
Unpuzzling The Sudoku Puzzle
The apparently harmless (to mental peace) and innocuous-looking Sudoku puzzle, also referred to as Number Place, is the newest wave to have taken the puzzling world of puzzles by storm in the United States.
Solving a sudoku puzzle involves one basic rule; each row and column and 3×3 region must have the numbers from 1 to 9, but with no number repeated. However, the sudoku puzzle is not quite as simple as it appears to be. After having proceeded smoothly through most of the game, you can find yourself stuck in the middle of the game without any solution whatsoever.
The Puzzling Sudoku
The engaging complexity of Sudoku puzzles lies in the fact that while the rules of the game are fairly simple, it is not simple to solve the puzzle. It requires a significant amount of analytical reasoning, supported by a certain amount of inspired guesswork. These factors have and still continue to make sudoku puzzles one of the most popular puzzles today. Avid players have even christened some of the popular strategies. Names such as “swordfish” and “x-wing” have become popular conventions, their popularity hinting at the popularity factor of the game.
For those who still remain part of the unfortunate and rapidly diminishing club of those who are new to Sudoku, the World Wide Web is an excellent source of information. A friendly word of caution, though: don’t be shocked at the number of sources, because this little puzzle has gained a tremendous following.
